Therapy Assistant

What is the difference between a therapist and a therapy assistant?

At Klint Neuro, our physiotherapists and occupational therapists are responsible for providing assessments, developing individualised treatment plans, evaluating your progress, and managing any equipment needs.

Our therapy assistants are responsible for working with you and your physiotherapist or occupational therapist to deliver the treatment laid out in your plan.

Who are our therapy assistants?

They say teamwork makes the dream work, and that old adage rings especially true when it comes to our talented Melbourne therapy assistant team, who work collaboratively with our neurological physiotherapists and neurological occupational therapists to deliver unique and tailored treatments designed specifically for your needs.

Our therapy assistants are specifically chosen with exercise science or allied health assistance qualifications and have been trained in-house to deliver care for neurological conditions and disabilities specifically.

What does a therapy assistant do?

Our therapy assistants offer support across a number of areas including:

  • Getting to know you and understand your individual needs
  • Developing goals and treatment strategies
  • Delivering home-based, gym-based and hydrotherapy exercise programs pre-designed by a our neurological physiotherapist
  • Delivering home-based or clinic-based telehealth, upper limb, cognitive and memory program designed by our occupational therapist
  • Locating and accessing gyms and swimming pools with appropriate facilities for your needs
  • Working to NDIS-planned programs

What is the process of working with a therapy assistant?

While each person is unique, there are generally four steps involved in working with a therapy assistant. For you as a patient, these include:
  1. An initial assessment and goal development session with your physiotherapist or occupational therapist
  2. A series of joint sessions with your physiotherapist or occupational therapist and therapy assistant to further develop and tailor your treatment plan and gain a better understanding of your needs.
  3. Working with your therapy assistanton the treatment plan developed by your physiotherapist or occupational therapist
  4. Monitoring and reviewing treatment and goals with your physiotherapist, occupational therapist and therapy assistant.

What funding can be accessed for therapy assistants?

Klint Neuro offers both privately funded and NDIS funded therapy assistant treatment plans. Your physiotherapist can provide further information about funding support and assistance options for your treatment. Further information on NDIS therapy assistance is available here.

Do I need an allied health professional involved in therapy assistant services?

Yes. All of our therapy assistants work under the supervision and guidance of our neurological physiotherapists or occupational therapists to create holistic treatment plans designed to empower you and improve your ability to live well.

What can’t a therapy assistant do?

At Klint Neuro, all treatment is delivered under the supervision and direction of a physiotherapist. That means your therapy assistant cannot make alterations to your plan without consulting the neurological physiotherapist or neurological occupational therapist
