Respiratory Physiotherapy
Klint has a subspecialty interest and skill in respiratory care for people with significant neurological condition or disability. We have worked closely with the Royal Children’s Hospital, Monash Children’s Hospital, Austin Hospital, Bethlehem Hospital and specialized group homes for long-term management of respiratory issues. This means that we have respiratory physiotherapy skills in the management and care of people with:
-
Tracheostomies
-
Ventilators
-
Cough Assist or Insufflation-exsufflation Machines
-
Poor airway clearance, requiring manual assist cough and suctioning
-
We may assist in an equipment prescription trial to determine suitability of such equipment in the school environment and its intended use.
-
We may provide a second opinion to the school and develop the capacity of the school and its staff to care for your child and cater to disabilities.
Conditions that often have respiratory complications include, but are not limited to, quadriplegia (high spinal cord injury), motor neurone disease, acquired brain injury and spinal muscular atrophy.
We have clients across Melbourne and regional Victoria who consider our services used in combination with their local or tertiary health service, to provide training for staff in airway clearance and planning for emergency scenarios. This may involve us travelling to you or providing Telehealth services to optimise care for this specialised need.
