Carer & Family Training

At Klint we understand how important family members and carers are when it comes to helping our clients recover from and manage their neurological conditions. We understand that carers could be helping anyone from their elderly parent to their young child.

The team at Klint has a range of expertise and are dedicated to educating and training family and carers to help create a team around our clients and give them the best chance of recovery. We can teach and train family and carers to help implement exercise programs, help with transfers and use specialised equipment like hoists.

Just looking at post stroke recovery alone, research has shown that high amounts of intensity are required to help lay down new pathways to help relearn function. Only a small proportion of people with stroke exercise or receive therapy more than 3 times a week, resulting in many people not achieving their highest potential. For long term and lasting change to occur we know that the brain requires hours of therapy daily to lay down new pathways. That is why we are passionate in being able to train others up to help fill this gap in therapy.

With progressive neurological conditions we know that their care looks very different and things can change suddenly or gradually. Carers and family members are often a huge part of what allows are clients to remain as independent as possible, and we welcome their feedback so we can adjust the interventions to suit.

The therapists at Klint have the expertise and experience to help educate and train carers and family members with the ever-changing needs of our clients. Whether it is changing transfers, prescribing different walking aids or consulting on new equipment requirement, we invite families and carers to ask questions during the consultations, and encourage participation from all so we can work out a solution that meets multiple needs and perspectives.

We align closely with the philosophy of the NDIS. We want to help people to be able to participate in the community as much as possible and for as long as possible.
