Following graduation from the Bachelor of Physiotherapy at La Trobe University, Vathana has specialised in Paediatrics over the last 20 years. She has worked both in Australia and the UK. Some of the specialist centres in paediatrics include The Royal London Hospital and University College London Hospital. She has also completed her post graduate certificate in paediatrics at The University of Melbourne and was funded by the National Institute of Health and Research to complete her masters in Clinical evidence and Research at Hertfordshire University. Vathana has extensive experience in hospital and community settings working from neonates and babies to adolescents and transition to adults services, diagnosing and treating complex presentations.
Vathana’s role is to mentor and provide clinical oversight over paediatric services and support growth and development in the therapy team.
Vathana feels her role as a therapist is as a facilitator to show families and young people how to achieve their best and enjoy their life to the maximum. She is pragmatic and a problem solver and loves a challenge. She helps to look at all aspects of life and supports families to adopt lifestyle changes to accommodate therapy needs.
Vathana has clinical interests in early intervention for children with neurological conditions, managing complex presentations of dystonic movements, functional neurological disorders in adolescents, teaching other professionals. She has also completed the 8 week intensive Bobath training in Paediatrics and uses specialist handling skills in her treatment.
In her spare time, Vathana enjoys dancing she recently tried belly dancing and returned back to ballet classes. She also enjoys live music and any opportunity to enjoy the sunshine.
